Buffalo Grove, IL — The community of Buffalo Grove is mourning the loss of Beverly Kall Sussman, a beloved educator, former trustee, and Village President, who passed away recently. Beverly was a lifelong advocate for her community, a passionate teacher, and a leader who made a lasting impact on the Village of Buffalo Grove.
Elliott Hartstein, former Village President of Buffalo Grove, expressed his sorrow upon hearing the news of Beverly’s passing, sharing heartfelt tributes to a woman he called a friend and a dedicated public servant. “I am saddened to share the passing of Beverly Sussman, a friend, a dedicated teacher, a former trustee, and Village President,” Hartstein wrote. “Bev was an amazing lady who loved her family and her community. She was known for years as an innovative science teacher in District 96, where for countless years she had a space program where her students had a simulated experience of blasting off and going into space. It was quite special.”
For many in Buffalo Grove, Beverly’s legacy will always be tied to her work in education, where she inspired and engaged countless students with her innovative approach to teaching. Her space program, which gave students the opportunity to simulate a journey into space, was a favorite memory for many former students and a testament to her creativity and dedication to making science exciting and accessible.
Beyond her contributions to education, Beverly was also deeply committed to the special needs community. She played a pivotal role in the Disabilities Commission, working tirelessly to advocate for individuals with special needs and to ensure that their voices were heard within the community. Her devotion to this cause highlighted her compassion and her belief in creating a more inclusive society.
In addition to her teaching and advocacy work, Beverly’s leadership extended into local government. She served as a trustee on the Buffalo Grove Village Board and later as Village President for two terms. During her tenure, Beverly worked diligently on behalf of the residents of Buffalo Grove, where she earned a reputation for being thorough, thoughtful, and committed to the well-being of the community. Under her leadership, the Village saw significant growth and development, leaving a lasting mark on the local landscape.
“She was always thorough and thoughtful on every issue that came before us,” Hartstein reflected, recalling their time working together on the Village Board. “She went on to become Village President for which she served two terms during which much was accomplished during her tenure.”
Above all, Beverly was known for her deep love and devotion to her family. She was a proud wife to her husband, Marty Sussman, who stood by her side through all of her accomplishments. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM at Chicago Jewish Funerals in Buffalo Grove. The community is invited to gather and celebrate the life of a remarkable woman who touched so many lives with her dedication and love.
